Go-To Ideas for Successful Management and Completion of Online Courses

  1. Set up all your devices for all email accounts you use. This will keep you on-track and in touch with course materials and notifications.
  2. Use a calendar system to note due dates, readings, and time conflicts.
  3. Print out each course syllabus. Use them to check your calendar and for handy reference.
  4. Use a word processing tool to compose your Canvas responses. Check grammar, spelling, and content before posting.
  5. Have a to-do list. A simple paper list is fine. Cross out items as they are completed.
  6. Read ahead. Write notes and comments in your books–(or use sticky notes). Write comments in the margin. Add interesting people, concepts, and books to lists you maintain for further study.
  7. Backup your assignments to a cloud-based drive. Keep a thumb drive handy for portable backup.
  8. Experiment with a wiki to takes notes, post information, make lists, and add web links.
  9. Get comfortable with Canvas. Use its module structure to stay organized.
  10. Manage your emotions. Use music, coffee, or little rewards to keep yourself motivated and to block out distractions.
  11. Create and use a naming convention for all your files. Note class, date submitted, assignment, and your name. This makes search and organization so much easier.
