Please post a short video of no more than 3 minutes sharing your evidence-based practice report. What were you trying to discover? Why is this important? What results did you find? What was the answer to your question? What does this mean for our practice as librarians?
Remember, the easiest way to record a video for this assignment is to open the reply window and then click on the little film icon in the middle of the second row of icons at the top. You may find it helpful to start by writing down what you want to say and have a practice at saying it before you record your video.
What I learned video script | 810xs | BWhitmer For my evidence-based practice report, I was looking at the way researchers conceptualize their approach to studying broadband adoption, digital literacy, and digital inclusion which are all linked aspects of the changes broadly caused by the deployment of networked computing infrastructure and various forms of digital technology. This has been disrupting all aspects of American life with increasing acceleration and amplification since the World Wide Web was commercialized in the 1990s.
And for the public library, its institution role has had to evolve as well. The public library is the primary digital hub for millions of Americans and especially so for less developed and less affluent communities of rural America.
By tracking a longitudinal series of library plus technology surveys, I tried to demonstrate the changing mission of the public library and the changes in research “best practice” were linked to the evolution of networked technology.
The implications for librarians are clear, networked technology is the primary disruptive factor driving changes in library mission and practice and it is incumbent on librarians to stay knowledgeable, be flexible, and advocate for more funds to pay for being the primary public but underfunded anchor institution for promoting an entire range of digital literacy skills for a full range of persons in the library service area.
