Pathfinder Submit Assignment Due Jul 9 by 11:59pm Points 25 Submitting a website url or a file upload Available May 22 at 12am - Aug 11 at 11:59pm 3 months The pathfinder is the major assignment for this course. For this assignment, you will pair up with one partner and assemble key resources and readings on a topic of your own choosing designed to introduce a patron/student/user to a particular issue. You should be mindful of selecting something that is neither too broad nor too narrow, as this will make life easier when putting your pathfinder together. Examples of pathfinders from previous classes include: Women in European History http://cpresto22.wix.com/womenineurope (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. The Suspense Film: A Genre http://suspensefilmpathfinder.weebly.com/research.html (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. Young Adult Books https://yasummerreads.wordpress.com/about-us/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. Grand County Resources (pathfinder for local library community) https://sites.google.com/site/grandcountyresources/home (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. Vermeer: A Pathfinder http://li802xopathfinder.wix.com/vermeer#!bibliography/lrjjc (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. There are, of course, many thousands of possible topics to choose from and I encourage you and your group member to choose something that is of mutual interest. Regardless of which topic you choose, all pathfinders will have: -at least THREE databases that are relevant to your topic, with a short explanation about what they are useful for (e.g. kinds of sources, usability, special features, etc.) -at least SIX reference books relevant to the topic -at least THREE web-based reference sources on the topic -a list of at least EIGHT monographs relevant to the topic. These might be classics in the field or books that you feel convey the richness of a particular topic -at least SIX articles based on the same criteria as mentioned above -a listing of at least THREE of the most important journals for the topic with a brief explanation of their history, audience, etc. There may, of course, be many other items you wish to include in your pathfinder, depending on your topic—films, music, video clips, artifacts, etc., so you will almost certainly want to go beyond the minimum requirements posted above in one way or another. In selecting the medium through which to present your pathfinder, you have two options: 1) a website 2) a brochure (see examples above). In our first f2f weekend together, Cynthia Kane from WAW Library will present (through a Zoom session) how to create an online pathfinder using LibGuides. Our class will have an account that your group can use if you choose to go this route (which I would recommend). More on this the first weekend of class. As a part of the grading rubric, each student will submit a feedback form rating the contributions of their partner, so do be sure that you work together to sort out who will be responsible for what throughout the project. This is definitely good practice for real-life collaboration.
